Just this morning (Eastern Time), from around 6 AM until roughly 10 AM, Cloudflare experienced a major outage lasting more than three hours. Compared with the AWS outage in October, this incident had an even broader impact. Nearly one-third of all websites worldwide became inaccessible, including many major platforms such as X (formerly Twitter), ChatGPT, and the gaming platform Epic.
In addition, many government websites were taken offline as well, including those of the Hong Kong government, several U.S. government sites, and Ukrainian government portals. In short, this outage was global in scale.
Internet Outage
Cloudflare is a cloud service provider best known for its content delivery network (CDN). Many large websites rely on Cloudflare to mitigate attacks and reduce infrastructure costs. This prolonged outage once again highlighted the risks of over-reliance on a single provider—when one critical vendor fails, entire businesses can be brought to a standstill, leading to significant losses for high-traffic websites.
Cloudflare has not yet explained the root cause of the issue. However, as of the time this article was written, all services have been fully restored. Cloudflare has stated that it will publish a detailed blog post explaining the cause of this major incident.

It's worth noting that many customers subscribed to Cloudflare’s Pro plan, or those who purchased additional paid services, are not eligible for compensation for this outage. Only Business and Enterprise customers qualify for service-level agreement (SLA) credits.
