Megastore Simulator is a new indie game that just hit the shelves. As the name suggests, it's a massive supermarket simulation, and the solo dev has been consistently pumping out updates leading up to this post. The game is currently in Early Access.

It's a very classic "supermarket simulator" management game. Its biggest selling point? The sheer, overwhelming variety of items. The developer keeps adding different product categories, and it truly earns the "Megastore" title because you actually get multiple floors and escalators!

The image above is a shot of my storefront after grinding for about 8-9 hours.

The game features a ton of product varieties. You pick a starting category at the beginning, and as you earn cash, you unlock product licenses for that specific category. Every category has dozens of items to sell, and the departments are incredibly diverse: bakery, clothing, electronics, music, sports, toys, and general groceries.

I started with the Bakery. The bread here actually requires an oven to bake, so the "manual labor" cost is a bit high, but it's great for building up your early-game capital. If you pivot to Electronics later on, the profit margins are insane.

This game is perfect for a casual playthrough. The massive amount of merchandise means you are constantly in a loop of expanding and restocking. Ringing up customers gets automated pretty quickly once you hire a cashier, though they don't seem super overwhelmed (one cashier is more than enough to handle a store with 40-50 different products).

The Good Stuff:
The product catalog is constantly improving. The dev has been pushing updates almost weekly for the past few weeks. They also recently added a worker feature to help unload boxes, saving you from dying of exhaustion during late-game restocking. There are still a few gripes, but the category variety is already excellent. I'm really hoping they roll out a co-op/multiplayer system in the future!

The Gripes:
In the early game, with just a dozen or so items (some basic groceries, a couple of fruits, and a few types of bread), the foot traffic is pretty average. However, even after expanding my product lines by two or three times, the customer volume only increased by a tiny bit. The customers aren't buying significantly more stuff, either. It feels like having more items doesn't make the store that much busier. Hopefully, they balance this out for the late game in future patches.
