Anthropic released Claude Opus 5 on July 24 as the successor to Opus 4.8. Its published evaluations showed substantial coding improvements and results that exceeded Fable 5 on some tasks.

Opus 5 launched for paid Claude subscriptions, with API pricing about half the Fable 5 base rates. That makes it an interesting choice for developers comparing the total cost of completing a coding task.
Calling any model the world's best based on a few charts is too broad. What matters is whether it handles your repository, follows instructions, and produces changes you can verify. This is a historical launch note; the later Opus 5.5 release updates the pricing and capabilities.
