OpenAI's Codex for Open Source program offers selected maintainers six months of ChatGPT Pro, covering Codex usage. Eligible projects may also receive API credits and conditional access to Codex Security.

The program considers active projects with meaningful usage, broad adoption, or clear importance to the software ecosystem. Primary and core maintainers can apply. The repository does not have to be owned by an individual rather than an organization, and the form does not impose a universal app-store or star-count threshold.
Make the project’s value clear
- Explain your actual maintenance responsibilities, such as issue triage, reviews, releases, and security fixes.
- Include evidence of adoption or ecosystem importance: downloads, users, dependent projects, or a clear account of why the software matters.
- Link an actively maintained public repository and describe how Codex would help with reviews, automation, releases, or other maintenance work.
My original suggestions about release history and user adoption can help explain a project's impact, but they are not additional official eligibility rules. Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis, so a smaller but important project should still explain its case.
