OpenAI introduced GPT-6 Astra shortly after Anthropic released Claude Fable 5.1. The launch comparisons highlighted strong performance in coding, computer use, browsing, cybersecurity, scientific tasks, and professional work.

Astra is also designed to be more candid about difficult tasks it cannot complete. The original announcement described reduced hallucinations compared with GPT-5.6 Sol, alongside improvements in the amount of work an agent can complete.
Standard API pricing is $10 per million input tokens and $50 per million output tokens. The initial rollout prioritized trusted organizations, with wider paid access planned afterward. Access and pricing depend on the product and processing mode.
A benchmark lead is useful context, but I would judge it on the tasks I actually need completed and how much checking the result requires. For current availability and rates, see the official GPT-6 Astra model page.
