A few hours ago, an executive at X (formerly Twitter) released an announcement stating that X's Communities feature will officially shut down on May 6th, citing a decline in usage as the primary reason.
Previously, the Communities feature allowed users to aggregate similar types of tweets into a dedicated timeline. There were many well-known communities in the Chinese-speaking sphere as well, providing highly vertical content. However, as community timelines became flooded with tweets from spam accounts, the lack of automated bot-blocking tools put immense pressure on community admins. Furthermore, running a community generated zero revenue for the admins, ultimately leading to these spaces being completely overrun by spam content.

It's quite a pity that many content-rich communities will be closed.
