Rest Stop Simulator Review: Busy Work and Launch Bugs

I played Rest Stop Simulator for a little over two hours on its release day. My verdict leaned negative: it was not presented as Early Access, but I encountered enough bugs and unfinished-feeling systems to stop early. This review reflects that launch build.

Running the service area

The game places you in a U.S. highway rest stop. I had expected a parking business; instead, vehicles bring customers to visit your facilities. You begin with a restroom and a supermarket. Restroom supplies need frequent replenishment, and in my game the floor became dirty quickly even without much customer activity.

Supermarket shelves in Rest Stop Simulator

A three-level shelf produced a bug that prevented me from changing the price of the bottom item. You can normally choose prices, with higher prices reducing demand, but customers were also impatient and left after short waits.

I unlocked the restaurant after around an hour. At that point, hiring a supermarket cashier became important because managing everything alone was too busy. The number of separate tasks made me think the game might benefit from cooperative play.

Restaurant service felt especially simple: store purchased food in a refrigerator and serve it when ordered, without much cooking involved.

A few practical tips

Time passes while you work in the morning, so evening is a convenient time to restock. Employees can handle some replenishment and make the business easier to run. Once staffing is in place, earning money did not feel particularly difficult.

My verdict on the launch version

I did not find a strong long-term goal or much depth in the individual facilities, and Steam achievements were absent when I played. The price was fairly low, but similar management games felt more complete. I would check later patches and recent player reviews before buying; the bugs described here may have changed since release.
